Miriam Benatti's Bodyworks

Whatever service you require, you can expect to receive a holistic, client-centered, muscle-specific massage that will relax your body, ease unpleasant physical symptoms, and leave you feeling rejuvenated.

While LMTs don't "diagnose," they do listen compassionately to your symptoms and concerns and create a treatment plan that best meets your needs.

"I do this work because I love helping people slow down, breathe, and allow their bodies to do the jobs they were intended to do. I love, after seeing a person's shoulders nearly up to their ears when they arrive at my office, seeing them leave relaxed and supported in an anatomically correct way.

"Because of the restorative nature of my work, and my focus on both nurturing and muscular education, the majority of my clients are athletes and perinatal women, but I also work with people who simply want to relax in a nurturing setting."

When making an appointment, you can choose from the menu of services below or Miriam can come up with an individualized treatment after intake.

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, and greater flexibility.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.

Myofascial Release

I will use Myofascial techniques throughout a Deep Tissue session. You may request a soley Myofascial Release session as well.

Myofascial release is a form of soft tissue therapy intended to eliminate pain, increase range of motion, and rebalance the entire body. It does this by using massage techniques to stretch the fascia and release the bonds that exist between the fascia, muscles and bones. Fascia is the connective tissue that connects and covers all muscles, organs, and skeletal structures of the body. Direct myofascial release is sometimes known as deep tissue work. Indirect release applies light pressure and gently stretches the fascia; this allows for increased blood circulation and relief from pain. Little or no oil is used.

Trigger Point Therapy

I will use Trigger Point Therapy techniques throughout a regular Deep Tissue session.

Trigger Point Therapy is a style of bodywork that focuses on stimulating and releasing "trigger points" in your body. Trigger points are tender areas of tension similar to acupressure points, except they occur in the belly of the muscle rather than along the energy pathways of the body. These "knots" are built up throughout a person's life due to physical, mental, and/or emotional stress. During a session, focused pressure is applied through a variety of techniques order to release your trigger points. This process can be quite painful at times, yet the effects are lasting and profoundly transformative.

Medical and Sports Massage

Medical Massage benefits those healing from injuries or currently living with illness. Sports Massage is designed for highly active people who engage in athletics or repetetive movements. Engaging in repetetive movement exercise is harsh on the body and can often lead to injuries in both the short and long term. Both Medical and Sports Massage enhance performance and prolong longevity by helping to prevent injury, repair current and past injuries, reduce pains and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and dramatically improve recovery rates. It is also highly effective in aiding the rapid recovery from an injury by encouraging greater kinesthetic awareness and in turn promoting the body's natural immune function.

Techniques used include Trigger Point Therapy, Passive Range of Motion, Active Resistance, Stretching, Deep Tissue work, and postural analysis. Note that for medical massage, a doctor's note may be required.

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy Massage is a style of bodywork designed specifically for pregnant women. It is within a Licensed Massage Therapist's scope of practice to provide Pregnancy Massage in New York State. However, I chose to complete an extra 37 training hours to become Certified in Prenatal Massage in 2009 so I could provide the most safe and effective materity treatment to my clients.

Pregnancy is a time when a woman's body endures tremendous stress due to dramatic physical and emotional changes. Using various techniques specially developed for the expecting mother, Pregnancy Massage helps release the pain and discomfort experienced throughout pregnancy. The benefits are profound, including emotional support, the relief of joint pain due to extra weight and postural imbalance, and improved breathing and relaxation.

Hot Stone Therapy

Hot Stone Therapy is a style of massage where heated stones are placed at specific sites on your body to deepen relaxation and promote circulation in your muscles. Muscles that are heated with these stones release tension and stress much more deeply and quickly than with a traditional massage. The overall experience is very grounding, nurturing, and rejuvenating.

Movement Education

Included in your treatment as needed.

Movement education uses a custom-tailored approach to improving your body awareness and movement skills. Combining problem-solving, and exploratory methods, this practice inevitably leads to a stronger connection between the mind and body, creating a more natural and graceful experience of movement and interaction with other people.

Enjoy a relaxing massage in the comfort of your own home. I bring the table, linens, oils, and music.
